İdareciler elinden çıkan siyasî bir yazışma türü olarakmektuplar bizlere, tabi olduğumuz devletin siyasîarenadaki konumu, idarecilerinin takip ettikleri dışsiyaset ve şâir devletler nazarında gördükleri kabuledair şüphesiz mühim bilgiler verir. Bu kitapta yeralan 101 mektup da bu kabil malumat yanındaOsmanlıların siyaset geleneğine, diğer devletlerleikili münasebetlerine bir parça ışık tutuyor. Hermektubun muhteviyatından bahsedildiği özetler deçift dille (Türkçe-İngilizce) verildi ki, bu sayedeistifadenin çerçevesi de genişlemiş olsun...
Letters, as a means of correspondence by the hands ofpolitical leaders, undoubtedly provide us with substantialinformation about the status of the state in the politicalarena, theforeign affairs the politicians run and aboutthe significance that the state has in the eyes of theothers. And the 101 letters covered in this work areshedding a bit of light upon the political tradition ofthe Ottomans, and the mutual relations they had withtheir counterparts ete. We chose to give the summariesof the letters in two languages (Turkish-English) sothat the range of benefit would be wider.
